Getting started

Gently remove any pot or packing material, then rinse and inspect your plant. Ask us which variety is available and how to plant it. For varieties planted in the tank's gravel or plant soil, cover the roots but leave the point where the leaves meet the roots uncovered.

Light and plant food

Use a light designed for aquarium plants and keep it on a regular daily timer. Plants need nutrients as well as light. Choose aquarium-safe plant food and follow the packet instructions; we can help you decide whether your plant needs food in the water or around its roots.

Simple everyday care

Keep up with regular partial water changes and gently remove damaged or decaying leaves. Give the plant time to settle into its new home and watch for new growth. Check with us that your tank's temperature and water conditions suit the variety you are buying.

Will it suit my fish?

Some fish nibble plants or dig them up, so tell us what lives in your tank before choosing. If you keep shrimp or other sensitive animals, ask about any treatments used on the plant before adding it. Inspect for snails and keep new plants separate for observation where possible.
