Where should I plant it?

Choose a position towards the back of your tank or use it as a centrepiece, with room for its leaves to grow. Check the supplied size before buying, as exact dimensions are not listed. Leave swimming space for your fish and avoid crowding smaller plants.

Planting made simple

Carefully remove any pot and packing material, then rinse and inspect the plant. Gently place the roots into aquarium plant soil or suitable gravel. Keep the point where the leaves meet the roots above the gravel rather than burying it.

Light and plant food

Use a light designed for aquarium plants on a regular daily timer. Amazon swords take up nutrients through their roots, so suitable plant soil or aquarium root fertiliser can help support growth. Follow the fertiliser's instructions and ask us what suits your setup.

Keeping it looking its best

Keep up with regular partial water changes and gently remove damaged or decaying leaves at their base. Some older leaves may fade while the plant settles into a new tank. Watch for healthy new growth rather than making sudden changes to lighting or plant food.

Will it suit my fish?

Some fish eat leaves or dig around roots. Tell us what you keep so we can help you check suitability. If you have shrimp or other sensitive animals, ask about any treatments used on the plant before adding it. Do not assume it is free of snails or treatment residues.
