Add a fresh green touch to your planted aquarium with Bacopa Monnieri. Its fleshy, rounded leaves grow along stems that can be grouped to create a leafy backdrop or trimmed to suit a smaller layout. Watching new shoots fill out the group is part of the enjoyment of keeping this plant.

Planting and placement

Gently rinse and inspect the plant before adding it to your aquarium. If supplied in a pot, carefully remove the pot and packing material from around the roots. Plant individual stems in aquarium substrate with a little space between them, keeping leaves above the substrate. Position the group where light can reach the lower growth rather than beneath heavy shade.

Lighting and nutrition

Moderate aquarium lighting is a useful starting point. Provide aquarium-safe plant nutrients according to the product instructions, considering your substrate and existing fertiliser routine. Added CO2 can support growth but is not essential for a straightforward setup. Avoid changing lighting or nutrient doses sharply while the plant settles.

Water and maintenance

Keep freshwater conditions stable and carry out regular partial water changes. Remove damaged leaves and deteriorating material. Plants grown above water may change their leaf appearance as they adapt to submerged conditions, so allow time for new growth and monitor their progress.

Trimming and propagation

Use clean aquarium scissors to trim stems when they reach your preferred height. Healthy top cuttings can be replanted to expand the group, while the remaining stems can produce new side shoots. Thin crowded growth so light continues to reach the lower leaves.

Fish and shrimp compatibility

This plant can be used in planted community aquariums, though digging and plant-eating fish may uproot or damage it. If keeping shrimp or other sensitive livestock, ask about treatments used on the supplied plant and suitable preparation before introducing it.

Ask Richards Bay Pet Shop about the supplied size and quantity, or tell us about your aquarium if you need help choosing its position. This listing is for ornamental planting, not food or medicinal use. Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
