Create a leafy corner in your freshwater aquarium with Ceratopteris Siliquosa, listed under its supplier name at Richards Bay Pet Shop. Ceratopteris ferns offer flexible planting possibilities, with rooted or floating placement depending on the supplied plant and your layout. Ask our team to confirm the variety, supplied size and best growing method before ordering.
Preparation and placement
Gently rinse and inspect the plant. If supplied in a pot, carefully remove the pot and packing material from around the roots. For rooted placement, settle the roots into suitable aquarium substrate while keeping the crown, where the leaves emerge, above it. If floating placement is confirmed for the supplied plant, allow the roots to hang freely in the water.
Lighting and nutrition
Moderate aquarium lighting is a useful starting point for Ceratopteris ferns. Avoid heavy shade, and thin floating growth if it blocks light needed by plants below. Use aquarium-safe plant nutrients according to their instructions and your existing dosing routine. Ask whether added CO2 would benefit your setup rather than assuming it is required.
Water and maintenance
Confirm suitable temperature and water conditions for the supplied variety. Keep conditions stable, carry out regular partial water changes and remove deteriorating leaves. Allow room for growth, keep plants away from filter intakes and leave open surface space when using floating placement.
Handling and propagation
Handle leaves gently during planting and maintenance. Ceratopteris ferns can produce small plantlets on older leaves; allow these to develop their own leaves and roots before gently separating them. Ask our team for guidance if you are unsure which growth to remove.
Livestock compatibility
Leafy growth can provide cover in community layouts, but digging or plant-eating fish may damage or uproot plants. If keeping shrimp or other sensitive livestock, ask about treatments used on the supplied plant and suitable preparation before introduction.
Tell Richards Bay Pet Shop about your lighting, substrate and livestock so we can help you plan its placement. Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
